Here we have rare twin compartment George III Oak salt or candle box c1790. As you can see the box has super colour and patina. There is a shaped top with two holes for hanging. The twin compartments lead me to believe this was a salt box and the two compartments held different grades of salt which was often the case. This is apparent in some salt boxes having one lift up lid but two sections beneath for the different grades. I am also open to the fact that this could have been a candles box. The box is completely original including the false brass knobs and the paper lining to the rear. A beautiful period box in great retail condition ready for your home. The dimensions are approx 15.5 inches high 12 wide and 4.5 deep.
