Tunbridge-ware Fitted Sewing Box

Description

EDMUND NYE: a very good quality mid/late 19th century Tunbridge-ware SEWING BOX in excellent condition.

The lid is beautifully inlaid with a marquetry Van Dyke "Tumbling Blocks" panel within a border of tesserae and a wider border of oak leaves on the coromandel background, to all four sides.

This lid opens to reveal a well-fitted interior, with much further marquetry inlay and a full set of seven Mother-of-Pearl cotton reels; various MOP tools; MOP winders and Tunbridge lids etc. It is raised on four compressed bun feet and retains its original makers label underneath. 10.5ins (27cms) wide
