Pietra Dura Jewellery Box

A fine quality mid nineteenth century pietra dura and ebonised walnut jewellery box. The pietra dura marble top depicts a bouquet of flowers including a rose and lily of the valley. The use of the marble is wonderful, with the natural movement in the rock being used to express the leaves and petals perfectly. The box is made in ebonised walnut all to a high quality in keeping with the top, with moulded sides and small turned feet. The inside retains the original burgundy silk lining. The whole is in good condition, it even retains the original key, the only issue is a slight bit of warping at the front of the lid, and a couple of marks on the interior lining, both visible in photos. C.1860.
