Puckerings has dated this piece to the 1880s.

This one is lucky enough to have it's original mailing arrangements intact under a bevelled glass panel. This box would have been in an establishment close or in the Somerset village of Marston Magna; it shows the times of mail arriving and times that the mail would be dropped off at the Rectory Post Box and when visits to the village Post Office would be for telegrams as well as letters and small parcels.

This example has a wonderful bowed shape with a bowed door with the original bevelled glass window. Beneath are sections for book post to be left together with telegrams. The drawer at the very bottom would have had telegram forms to be completed with a space for a pen to the front. The box has the original maker's label for the top notch London retailer (suppliers to Queen Victorian and Prince Albert) J.C Vickery.

Superb condition towering 16" tall 13" wide x 9" deep. Victorian in era, around 1880. The letters show came with the box and are included in the sale.
