Quiet Street Antiques of Bath has dated this piece to the 1860s.
This lid opens to reveal the interior, lined with original dark green gilt-tooled velvet fittings in pristine condition.
Arranged within are the impressive original contents which include: the full set of TEN Mother-of-Pearl sewing reels; matching needle-cleaners etc and the full set of tools and implements. A few other sewing items can be found under the lids of the subsidiary compartments, which themselves have gilt brass knob handles.
