As part of our oriental collection we are delighted to offer this fine quality Japanese ivory lidded box inlaid with shibayama in great detail, this most unusual shaped box is set out on the lid to depict a tsuba(japanese sword guard)below a scroll , if you look carefully you will see three slots above the fine quality bird in the reeds, these are intended to show where the sword blade and fittings would have slotted into the iron tsuba , the tsuba shape is then covered to the left by a scroll or banner, the banner nicely decorated in a floral display, a really unusual and well thought out lidded box.

The condition is superb , no losses or cracks , the lid fits to perfection onto the boxes inner lip, a great colour and ready to enhance any serious Japanese collection of ivory or shibayama.
