Description

A lovely quality late 19th century large Swiss "Piccolo Excelsior" MUSIC BOX in perfect working order, which plays a series of eight tunes beautifully.

The case is of walnut, inlaid to the front and lid with marquetry flowers and with yew-wood banding throughout. The lid opens to reveal the fine quality movement, with double-barrel (for long playing); tune indicator and comb in perfect condition. To the lid is the original tune sheet, and the movement is signed "MMC" ~ probably for the firm of Mammod, who also made steam-driven tractors etc.

A fine large and very melodious music box.
