Quiet Street Antiques of Bath has dated this piece to the 1850s.
The top opens to reveal the stunning array of silver-topped bottles and jars (10) and twin trays of tools and implements, arranged in two sections. These sections slide apart (on brass rollers!) thus revealing the leather compartment below with tray; pin cushion and needle case.

Further below is the locking jewellery drawer which is beautifully fitted and lined with silk compartments. Within the lid is a concealed easel mirror, with document section to the fore, and the whole box is stunningly lined in finest gilt-tooled navy blue morocco leather. A remarkable fitted box, complete with finest possible details and in wonderful condition. Silver hallmarked for London 1859.
