A Handsome and Complicated Gentlemans' Writing Box

Description

A particular strong, heavy and very fine quality early/mid 19th century brass-bound mahogany Gentlemans' WRITING BOX in excellent original condition.

The solid brass-bound lid, with central military-style handle, double-opens to reveal gilt-tooled leather stationery compartments; document sections; pair of good ink bottles; writing tablets and two fitted trays for pens etc.

Hidden deep within is a VERY secret compartment complete with HOLDER FOR SOVEREIGNS, and two further secret drawers ~ particularly hard to find ~ are hidden elsewhere. Complete with original key. A very good example...
