A Well-figured 18th Century Knife Box

Description

A good 18th century figured mahogany CUTLERY (or "KNIFE") BOX of serpentine form.

The finely figured lid, with its 'axehead' handle, opens to reveal the original fitted interior with divisions for 12 knives; 12 forks; 6 spoons and a pickle spoon. To either side are the original carrying handles, with an ornate brass escutcheon and locking clasp to the front. Good colour and patina.
