Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This Georgian oak hanging corner cupboard dates to circa 1780 and exemplifies traditional English country house style. The dark brown timber displays an original polish finish, complemented by brass hardware including a decorative escutcheon and a drawer pull. The construction incorporates a single arched panel door, fluted pilasters, a carved fretwork frieze above the door, and a lower single opening drawer. Inside, the cupboard provides an original shaped shelf interior. Practical dimensions measure 122 cm in height, 91.5 cm in width, and 46 cm in depth. Suitable for domestic interiors today, this wall-mounted corner unit provides functional storage while occupying otherwise unused wall space in a kitchen, dining room, hallway, or living area. The compact triangular profile fits snugly into room corners, keeping surfaces clear whilst offering enclosed shelving and a drawer for small household items.

FAQs

During the Georgian era in the eighteenth century, corner cupboards were created to maximise interior space in dining rooms and parlours. They served as practical wall-mounted storage for glassware, ceramics, and household items.

These cupboards were typically crafted from solid English oak, featuring hand-cut mortise and tenon joinery. Doors often incorporated fielded panels, fluted side pilasters, and decorative hand-carved friezes alongside brass hardware.

Authentic period pieces show signs of hand-planed back panels, irregular hand-carved details, and historical wear around hinges and keyhole escutcheons. Original backboards often consist of pine or oak planks displaying natural wood shrinkage over time.

A corner cupboard can be mounted in a kitchen, dining room, or hallway to utilise unused corner space. Displaying ceramics or books inside provides practical storage while integrating traditional woodwork into contemporary settings.

Maintain the timber by applying a clear beeswax polish once or twice a year, buffing gently along the grain. Keep the cupboard away from direct heat sources and radiator vents to prevent solid oak panels from shrinking or cracking.
