Quiet Street Antiques of Bath has dated this piece to the 1880s.
The slightly domed lid opens to reveal the well fitted interior, with compartments for paper; envelopes etc., small drawers; and a 'perpetual calendar.
The front opens further to allow the writing implement section to spring forward, with its compartments and original pair of ink bottles with gilded lids, and the original gilt-tooled leather writing surface with a further compartment below.
Fully signed (S. Woolfield, Glasgow) and in thoroughly good order.
