Fine Quality Japanese Signed Komai Box Meiji Period 1868-1912

19th century
Description

A superb quality japanese komai box decorated in relief in gold and silver work depicting a pagoda in the foreground with birds in flight above pine trees with mount fuji in the distance all inside a top quality floral border , the sides are decorated with gold mon above superbly decorated gilded bracket feet , the inside is further gilt decorated and chased with a bird amongst flora .

The underside is actually signed in gold by Komai , this is not to be confused with the poor quality metalwork boxes so often reffered to as Komai work.

This is the real thing and it is perfect !!!

Length 3" or 7.5cm

Width 2 1/2" or 5.5cm

Height 1 1/2" or 3cm
