It was listed by Puckerings. Sold pieces stay on Sellingantiques as a record of what has passed through, and the next one is rarely far away.
Puckerings has dated this piece to the 1890s.
The lock works but the key should never be put inside the box as the box will automatically lock when closed.

The interior is just as smart as the exterior, opening to form a writing slope with embossed decoration; this opens to reveal storage below, the back of the slope has pins which would have held elasticated ribbon in place to more a note board, this could be re-done.

The top removable tray has a variety of compartments including a wooden lined section with removable pen tray and the original brass topped inkwell. One thing I have never seen in one of these is on the reverse side of pen pad, this has a weekly memorandum.

Really superb condition and a wonderfully impressive size, measuring 13 1/2" wide x 10" x 6 1/4" tall. Quality all the way. Pen and stationery for photographic purposes only.
