The lid opens and the double action front comes down which also releases the sprung inkwell and pen compartments, automatically coming out when the front comes down and automatically pushed back when this front is returned. Once opened, a full leather writing slope is revealed, the top section opening for storage of papers and stationery, the underside of this slope has an inlaid plaque with the maker's name engraved and inked "Chapman, Son & Co. Makers, London EC".
The back compartment still retains the original leather portfolio, used for blotting paper and as a desk blotter. To the front is a polished brass holder for calendar cards, these have been professionally re-created, one set being perpetual.

To the right of the stationery compartments, there are a stack of three drawers with polished brass handles and topped with the original removable Mahogany framed writing slate.
The box comes complete with the two period brass topped inkwells (not matching, but period) sitting each side of the removable pen tray, with storage below.

Quite spectacular in every way, complete and in magnificent condition, the brass having been professionally re-polished to gleam; a true heirloom example. Measuring a mammoth 16" x 9 1/2" x 10 1/2" tall while closed. Please also note that our FREE worldwide shipping still applies to this piece, a huge saving for such a large imposing piece.
