There is an diamond shaped escutcheon to the right hand side housing the working tasseled key. The box opens to reveal a green leather writing surface with a gold embossed border.

The top section houses two (later) glass inkwells with brass tops; a lidded compartment and a pen tray with storage below and a small sloped storage compartment for nibs, clips etc.
A stunning box dating to around 1860, Victorian in era. Excellent condition, measuring 13" x 10" x 4" tall at rear.
