The interior of the lid is lined in the original blue velvet, this panel can be opened to reveal a space behind for letters or photographs and the panel has an integrated portfolio with a stunning gold embossed panel.

The box is made from the most stunning flamed Mahogany, with a military style brass bound construction trimmed with a brass stringing and a central inlaid brass plaque to the top, complimenting the brass escutcheon, complete with working tasseled key.
Dating to around 1840, the box is in superb condition, measuring 9 3/4" x 6 3/4" x 4 1/2" tall.
