Puckerings has dated this piece to the 1800s.
The lid opens to reveal a tray which "floats", so can be removed if desired without supports being left on the side, all beautifully re-lined in hand-marbled paper.
There is a brass pin which when removed allows the drawer to be opened with the aide of the two brass pulls, this means that when the box is locked, the drawer cannot be accessed and remains secure.
The sides of the box have two wonderful ring handles with back plates in the form of baskets with overflowing grapes and vines.
Excellent condition, one professional repair to the veneer on the lid, see photos. 12" x 8" x 7" tall.
