Why Sellingantiques dated this piece to THE EDWARDIAN ERA:
Ribbon-tied swag marquetry in boxwood: classical revival work of the period.
Shaped gallery with an oval mirror: typical Edwardian drawing-room cabinet design.
Slotted screws securing the backboard: standard fixings before modern cross-head screws.
Light handling wear and darkening to the brass drop handles: honest age.

Produced during the early 20th century, Edwardian music cabinets feature lighter proportions than Victorian predecessors, incorporating Sheraton and Neoclassical revival influences such as satinwood inlays, glazed doors, and mirror-backed galleries.

These pieces were typically constructed from solid mahogany or mahogany veneers, trimmed with satinwood or boxwood marquetry, and fitted with brass hardware and glass display panels.

Authentic period pieces display period-appropriate hand-cut joinery, thin timber back panels, original brass drop handles, genuine timber crossbanding, and shallow internal shelves designed for paper sheet music.

A music cabinet serves well as a compact hall table, a bedside unit, or decorative storage for vinyl records and books in a modern living space or study.

Keep the wood away from direct sunlight and radiators to avoid veneer lifting. Dust regularly with a dry microfibre cloth and apply a clear beeswax polish occasionally to preserve the timber finish.
