Why Sellingantiques dated this piece to THE 19TH CENTURY:
Wide pine backboards: rough-sawn secondary timber darkened naturally with age.
Astragal glazing: geometric wooden moulding holding individual panes of glass.
Cut nails in the backboards: standard nineteenth-century cabinet making.
Slotted brass screws in the hanging loops: correct period fixings.

This is an independent date report produced by Sellingantiques using its own proprietary system. The process uses the photographs shown on this page. The system is never told the date the dealer has declared. This report shows that the two dates corroborate.

This antique Georgian corner cabinet is a hanging timber piece produced during the 19th century. Built from dark brown mahogany with glass panes and brass hardware, the cabinet has a moulded cornice, a single door with geometric astragal glazing bars, and hanging side brackets. Visible signs of age include surface wear and scuffs across the dark brown wood and cornice. Inside the glazed door sit two wooden shelves. Measuring 67 cm high, 56 cm wide, and 34 cm deep, the unit fits into a room corner to hold small tableware, books, or decorative objects. It hangs on a wall in a living room, dining room, hallway, or study, providing functional storage while occupying minimal floor space in an English country house interior.

Originating in the 18th century, Georgian corner cabinets were designed to utilise unused room corners effectively. Typically featuring astragal glazed or solid timber doors, these wall-mounted or standing cupboards were designed to display fine china, glass, or collectables.

High-quality Georgian corner cupboards were crafted from dense mahogany, walnut, or oak, frequently incorporating hand-blown cylinder glass and wooden astragal glazing bars. Hand-cut dovetails, brass brassware, and moulded cornices are standard hallmarks of period construction.

Authentic period pieces exhibit hand-planed backboards, subtle irregularities in original hand-blown glass panes, and hand-forged iron or brass mounting hardware. The timber often demonstrates natural patination and minor joint shrinkage consistent with age.

An antique corner cabinet can be mounted in a dining room, kitchen, or hallway corner to add vertical interest and architectural character. Fill the interior shelves with modern ceramics, glassware, or books to create a contrast between historic joinery and contemporary decor.

Clean the timber exterior with a soft, lint-free cloth and apply a high-quality beeswax paste once annually, buffing gently along the grain. Glass panels should be cleaned by applying a mild solution to a cloth rather than spraying directly onto the wooden glazing bars.
