Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A mule chest is a traditional storage coffer featuring a hinged top compartment with one or more drawers positioned underneath. Originating in the seventeenth century and popular through the nineteenth century, it provided organised storage for linens, blankets, and footwear.

These chests were predominantly crafted from solid oak using mortise-and-tenon joinery, raised field panels, and dovetail-jointed drawers. Hardware typically includes brass drop handles, keyhole escutcheons, and heavy iron or brass hinges.

Authentic period chests display hand-sawn timber marks, natural shrinkage around panel joints, authentic pegged mortise construction, and uneven oxidation on brass fittings. Original drawers usually feature hand-cut dovetails and hand-planed bottoms.

A mule chest functions effectively at the foot of a bed for linen storage or situated in an entryway as a focal storage piece. Surfacing the flat lid with modern ceramics, lamps, or artwork balances historical timber textures with contemporary design elements.

Maintain solid oak by dusting regularly with a soft dry cloth and applying a high-quality beeswax polish once or twice a year in the direction of the grain. Avoid placement near direct heat sources or in damp environments to prevent timber warping or splitting.
