Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This late Georgian oak mule chest brings classic English country house character to a hallway, bedroom or living room as a practical storage piece with a hinged top lid. Rich dark brown timber tones highlight the natural grain across the flat top, three fielded front panels and lower framework. The base contains two lower drawers fitted with small turned wooden knobs, keyhole escutcheons and small brass locks above low bracket feet. Simple moulded framing outlines the structure, and a central keyhole sits in the upper rail beneath the overhanging top edge. Dimensions measure 77 cm high, 122 cm wide and 55 cm deep.

FAQs

A mule chest is a traditional storage chest featuring a hinged top lid with one or more drawers built into the base, originating in the late 17th century and gaining widespread popularity throughout the Georgian period as a practical piece of domestic furniture.

These chests were typically constructed from solid English oak, utilising mortise and tenon joinery for the frame, hand-planed panels, and hand-dovetailed drawer boxes secured with wooden pegging.

Authentic late Georgian pieces feature hand-cut dovetails inside drawers, original iron strap hinges, hand-planed fielded panels, and age-appropriate wear around brass escutcheons and knobs.

A mule chest serves as a practical statement piece placed at the foot of a bed, in an entryway hallway, or positioned beneath a mirror in a living room to add historic character and texture.

Maintain the wood finish by applying a quality beeswax polish twice a year, keeping the chest away from direct heat sources, and dusting regularly with a dry microfibre cloth.
