This Arts and Crafts mantel clock dates from circa 1900 and originates from England. The warm brown oak case has a tapered profile with cut-out feet at the base, and displays an inlaid motif of an owl perched upon a crescent moon made from pewter. A circular white enamel dial sits within a brass bezel, featuring black Roman numerals and a signature for Oetzmann & Co, Hampstead Road, London, alongside black hands. The case is also stamped for Oetzmann & Co, and the movement includes a balance escapement. Measuring 26.5 cm high, 15.5 cm wide, and 7.5 cm deep, the timepiece retains its original used condition with natural patination on the timber. It is suited for placement on a mantelpiece within a living room, study, or hallway, functioning as a decorative timepiece and a historical example of early twentieth-century house furnishings.

Arts and Crafts clock design emerged between 1880 and 1910, focusing on honest construction, natural timber grains, and stylized organic motifs. Cases often feature clean architectural outlines, exposed joinery, and decorative marquetry depicting nature rather than ornate gilded embellishments.

Primary construction materials included solid quarter-sawn oak, mahogany, and walnut. Decorative detailing frequently incorporated contrasting fruitwood marquetry, pewter, copper, brass bezels, and enamel or white dials with clear typography.

Authentic pieces display hand-finished joinery, natural timber patina, and period movement mechanisms. Dials often bear retailer or maker signatures from recognised London or provincial firms alongside stylized floral or animal marquetry patterns typical of the era.

Position the clock centrally on a timber or stone fireplace mantelpiece, or style it atop a minimalist sideboard. Pair it with simple ceramic vases or textured botanical displays to highlight the natural oak grain and geometric silhouette.

Dust the wooden case regularly with a clean, dry microfibre cloth. Apply a thin layer of natural beeswax polish sparingly once or twice a year to maintain the timber finish, avoiding direct sunlight, radiators, or excessive moisture.
