This Victorian maritime wall clock takes the form of a heavy cast brass bulkhead timepiece by Smiths of Cricklewood, dating from around 1900. The polished brass housing holds a hinged bezel with a side key release catch and a bevelled glass pane. A white enamel dial sits beneath, marked with black Roman numerals, minute tracks, and the maker inscription alongside a central seconds sweep and original blued steel hands. A wide mounting flange extends from the rear for secure wall attachment, accompanied by a small protruding adjustment pin on the left casing edge. Measuring 23.5 cm high, 23.5 cm wide, and 9.5 cm deep, this nautical timepiece suits placement in a study, library, or hallway where wall space is restricted. The robust metal construction and classic maritime design coordinate effortlessly with traditional interior aesthetics.

A ships clock is a maritime timepiece engineered for stability and precision aboard naval or merchant vessels, typically featuring a heavy brass casing and a clear, functional dial face.

Most marine wall clocks feature heavy cast or spun brass casings to resist saltwater corrosion, combined with glass bezels and enamel dials with Roman or Arabic numerals.

Authentic examples often display maker marks, location origin stamps on the dial face, heavy brass construction, and specialized mounting bezels suited for bulkhead attachment.

Position the clock as an accent feature in a home office, library, or hallway, where the brass casing complements dark paint tones, exposed brick, or natural wood panelling.

Dust the glass and brass frame regularly using a dry, soft cloth, avoiding abrasive metal polishes that can remove natural age oxidation or lacquered coatings.
