This eighteenth-century Dutch Baroque display cabinet is made from walnut and oak with marquetry inlay, glass, and brass, finished in a warm brown colour. The upper section has glazed double doors with a shaped arch pediment and a carved crest, enclosing a velvet-lined shelved interior, alongside glazed side panels. The lower section takes a bombe chest form containing three long graduated drawers fitted with brass drop handles and key escutcheons, sitting upon carved claw feet. Intricate floral marquetry inlay decorates the exterior surfaces, complemented by shaped mouldings. The piece measures 185 cm high, 132 cm wide, and 50.5 cm deep, and the top section separates for dismantling. In a modern home, this cabinet provides elegant display storage in a principal living space or dining room for tableware, books, or decorative objects.

Eighteenth-century Dutch marquetry furniture is defined by intricate floral wood inlays, urn motifs, and foliate patterns, often executed on walnut veneers over shaped or bombe structural frames.

These pieces typically feature walnut, oak, and fruitwood veneers laid over a solid timber core, finished with cast brass handles and glass panelling on the upper doors.

Authenticity can be verified by inspecting hand-cut marquetry veneers, hand-dovetailed drawer joinery, period-correct brass hardware, and natural timber shrinkage consistent with age.

Position the cabinet as a focal feature against a neutral wall, pairing the historic woodwork with minimal decorative objects or books inside the glazed section for visual contrast.

Maintain a stable indoor climate to prevent veneer lift, dust regularly with a soft dry cloth, and apply a high-quality beeswax polish occasionally while avoiding direct sunlight.
