This Edwardian biscuit box takes the form of a clear glass cylindrical barrel set within an integrated silver-plated footed tray base, complete with a matching silver-plated hinged lid. The exterior of the clear glass body displays hand-etched floral and foliate garlands tied with ribbons and bows, while the flat silver-plated lid features an engraved garland design on top and a T-shaped central cast finial. The silver-plated base rests upon three cast claw feet and displays beaded borders along the rims. The piece measures 18.4 cm high, 17.8 cm wide, and 17.8 cm deep, with the base sitting on a white surface. Place this silver-plated and glass barrel on a dining room sideboard or a living room side table to serve biscuits or sweets during afternoon tea or gatherings. The reflective silver surfaces and etched glass motifs suit traditional English country house interiors, bringing a decorative touch to table settings and serving areas. The item holds a signature on the underside of the base and includes replaced fasteners on the underside.

An antique silver biscuit box, or biscuit barrel, was designed during the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries to store and serve dry biscuits during afternoon tea, keeping them crisp and protected from moisture.

Edwardian biscuit barrels were commonly constructed using etched, cut, or clear glass paired with silver-plated or sterling silver rims, covers, handles, and footed display trays.

Authentic pieces by Mappin & Webb feature crisp maker marks or electroplate stamps such as MAPPIN & WEBB or EPNS, along with precise metalwork, high-quality engraving, and well-fitted lids.

An antique glass and silver biscuit box can be styled on a dining room sideboard, kitchen dresser, or drinks trolley as a functional storage container or decorative tabletop accent.

Clean the glass body using warm water and mild liquid soap while avoiding abrasive pads, and gently polish the silver elements using a specialised silver cloth or non-abrasive silver cream to remove tarnish.
