Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

FAQs

Louis XVI style French bedside cabinets feature neoclassical proportions, symmetrical lines, fluted turned legs, and carved ornamentation such as swags, ribbons, and beaded mouldings. They frequently incorporate natural marble tops and painted or gilded timber finishes reflecting late 18th-century French design traditions.

These pieces are constructed primarily from solid hardwoods such as oak, beech, or walnut, often finished with distressed paint layers or gold leaf detailing. Upper surfaces frequently feature natural marble slabs, such as Rouge Royale or Breccia, while drawers utilise traditional dovetail joinery.

Authentic period pieces display hand-carved decorative motifs, uneven hand-sawn timber panels on the reverse, and genuine historical wear to painted or gilded surfaces. Inspecting the marble underside will reveal hand-cut, unpolished stone alongside traditional mortise and tenon structural joinery.

Positioning one cabinet on either side of an upholstered or timber bed frame creates symmetrical visual balance in a master bedroom. Complementing them with contemporary table lamps and minimal glass accessories establishes an engaging contrast between neoclassical detailing and modern design.

Painted timber surfaces should be dusted regularly with a dry, soft microfibre cloth, avoiding harsh chemical sprays that compromise delicate gilding or paintwork. Clean marble tops using a pH-neutral cleaner formulated for stone, ensuring liquid spills are wiped promptly to prevent surface etching.
