This Victorian wall clock is an 8-day dial clock dating from around 1885, designed in a classic gentleman's library style. The circular piece comprises a warm brown turned solid figured walnut case with a rich polished finish, paired with a cast brass hinged bezel holding a glazed door over the face. The off-white painted dial displays black Roman numerals, minute markers, original blued steel hands, and the retailer signature Benetfink and Co Cheapside. Visible details include a side hinge on the brass rim, a winding hole, and subtle age-related surface wear on the dial. The clock measures 26.5 cm high, 26.5 cm wide, and 12 cm deep. In a contemporary home, this timepiece suits a narrow wall space in a study, hallway, living room, or kitchen. Its traditional aesthetic blends easily with both period and modern interior schemes, offering a functional decorative accent for domestic spaces.

A Victorian dial clock is a wall-mounted timepiece originating from nineteenth-century Britain, characterised by a round wooden surround, Roman numerals, and a glass bezel door protecting the dial face.

These timepieces typically feature turned solid or veneered hardwood surrounds, such as walnut, mahogany, or oak, alongside cast brass bezels, glass covers, and painted steel or brass dials.

Authentic examples generally feature hand-painted Roman numerals, a mechanical fusee or pendulum movement, traditional brass fittings, natural age-related wear on the dial paint, and maker marks printed or painted on the dial.

A vintage dial clock serves as a focal point when mounted above a mantelpiece, hung within a gallery wall, or placed in a hallway or study alongside contemporary or traditional wooden furnishings.

Keep the clock away from direct heat sources to prevent the wood frame from warping; clean the timber case gently with a soft cloth and beeswax polish, avoiding harsh chemical cleaners on the painted dial.
