We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

A carriage clock is a compact, spring-driven portable clock developed in France in the early nineteenth century for travel. Repeating mechanisms allow the clock to strike the hour or quarter on demand when a top button is pressed.

These timepieces typically feature solid brass cases, bevelled glass panels, and white enamel dials over copper plates. The internal mechanisms consist of engineered brass plates and steel arbours.

Authentic examples often feature maker stamps or serial numbers on the back plate of the movement. They display heavy gilt-brass casing, hand-cut bevelled glass, and original platform escapements visible through a top glass window.

Position the clock on a wooden mantelpiece, bookshelf, or side table to highlight its horological craftsmanship. Combining polished brass with contemporary matte surfaces creates a balanced contrast between historic details and modern textures.

Dust the exterior using a soft, dry microfibre cloth, avoiding harsh chemicals or abrasive polishes that wear down gilding. Mechanical movements should be professionally serviced and lubricated by a horologist every five to seven years.
