Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

During the 19th century, particularly the Napoleon III period, French cabinetmakers favoured amboyna wood for high-end small work due to its rich grain patterns and warm tones. Prominent Parisian makers like Maison Tahan created luxury dressing, jewellery, and writing boxes using imported exotic timbers combined with brass marquetry.

These boxes typically feature exotic amboyna burr veneer applied over a hardwood substrate such as oak or mahogany. Construction often incorporates brass edging, mother-of-pearl or brass stringing inlay, ebony borders, and velvet or silk fabric linings.

Authentic pieces often feature maker marks stamped onto the lock plate or rim, such as Tahan Paris or Tahan Aine. Additional indicators include fine hand-cut brass inlay, heavy brass mounts, precision joinery, and original working lock and key mechanisms.

Small wooden caskets and boxes can be placed on console tables, writing desks, or bookshelves as decorative accent pieces. They function as storage for keys, stationery, or small personal items while adding warm timber tones to contemporary rooms.

Dust the exterior regularly with a soft, dry microfibre cloth and keep the item away from direct sunlight and radiators to prevent veneer warping. Apply a small amount of clear beeswax polish annually to protect the finish and maintain the timbers natural luster.
