Antique Pine Fifteen-door Locker Cabinet

1900 - 1920
Description

A wonderfully antique pine locker cabinet, from the 1900s. Originally designed for commercial or institutional use, the cabinet features 15 individual storage compartments, each fitted with its own panelled fall-front door and brass turn catch.

The fifteen compartments are arranged across three columns, with each door dropping forward . each compartment has a good amount storage space, and has simple retaining brass stays supporting the door when open. The cabinet is finished with a moulded cornice above and raised on a simple plinth base, echoing the practical yet well-made nature of this piece.

Constructed predominantly from solid pine, the cabinet has developed a wonderfully warm, honey-coloured patina through generations of use. The original brass locks have similarly aged, displaying a rich, naturally oxidised surface which sits beautifully against the timber.

Originally intended as practical individual storage, the cabinet would now make a great additional to a hallway or as a shoe locker, retail display cabinet, linen cupboard or general storage piece.

This 1900 Victorian Industrial locker cabinet is constructed predominantly from solid pine with a warm honey colour and an oxidised surface on the metal elements. Fifteen individual panelled fall-front doors are arranged across three columns, with each door dropping forward and supported by simple retaining brass stays. Additional visible details include brass turn catches on each door, a moulded cornice above, and a simple plinth base below. The piece measures 160 cm high, 108 cm wide, and 46 cm deep. Originally designed for commercial or institutional use, it functions well in a home today as a hallway shoe locker, retail display cabinet, linen cupboard, or general storage piece.

An antique pine locker cabinet is a multi-compartment wooden storage piece built with individual hinged doors, historically utilized in industrial settings, post offices, schools, and staff quarters during the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries.

These cabinets were constructed using solid pine, featuring hand-fitted joinery such as mortise and tenon frames, panelled drop-down or side-hinged doors, and simple metal catches or latches designed for repeated functional use.

Authentic period pieces exhibit hand-planed surfaces, irregular dovetail or mortise joints, natural timber shrinkage gaps, age-appropriate oxidation on internal surfaces, and original iron or brass hardware with natural patina.

A large multi-compartment cabinet functions effectively in a hallway or utility room as concealed shoes and accessories storage, offering natural timber texture that contrasts against modern neutral wall plaster or painted surfaces.

Maintain the finish by dusting with a dry microfibre cloth and applying a clear beeswax polish once or twice a year to preserve moisture and protect the surface from drying or cracking.
