Salisbury Antiques Centre has dated this Rouge Marble Mantel Clock to the 1870s.

The upper section incorporates a finely cast bronze relief panel depicting a classical scene with figures and a horse-drawn chariot, providing an attractive decorative detail to the otherwise restrained architectural design.

The circular gilt dial is set behind a glazed brass bezel and features individual Roman numeral hour cartouches, with twin winding apertures. The eight-day movement strikes the hours on a coiled gong and is accessed through a glazed hinged door to the rear.
A particularly decorative example, combining strongly figured rouge marble with classical architectural and bronze detailing.
French, circa 1870.
