Puckerings has dated this piece to the 1860s.

The box has the most wonderful inlay, very unusual with the Mother of Pearl straps running across the top and down the front, a fine exotic wood and polished Pewter mosaic stringing has been used inside these straps and also frames the lid and front panels.
This is mirrored on the front of the box surrounding the key hole.

Once opened (complete with original working key), the clean and very usable interior is revealed, with leather writing slope with compartments that open for storage of papers, stationery and the like. There is a removable pen tray and the original silver on copper lidded inkwells. The right hand division between the inkwell and pen tray is the piece of wood which will release the secret wooden panel revealing the two original drawers .. I will mark this with a label so you know which one to pull.

The box retains it's original finish, which still showcases the beauty of the wood.
Dating to around 1860, the box remains in superb condition. Measures 14" x 10" x 6" tall while closed.
