This large sixteenth-century French Gothic coffer is constructed from solid oak with a dark brown finish and stands on stile feet. The rectangular plank top lid rests above a frieze fitted with an ornate central wrought iron lockplate featuring multiple keyholes. The front elevation displays three recessed panels carved in low relief with intricate Gothic tracery patterns, while the side panels exhibit parchemin carving.
