Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

George VI post boxes were produced in Great Britain during the reign of King George VI, between 1936 and 1952. Manufactured by authorised iron foundries for the General Post Office, these boxes carry the official GR VI royal cypher to denote ownership and monarchial era.

British postal collection boxes were predominantly manufactured from heavy cast iron to withstand harsh weather conditions and physical impact. High-grade iron was poured into foundry moulds to create rigid, thick-walled structures with integrated letter apertures, locks, and royal cyphers.

Authentic period post boxes feature crisp raised casting details including the GR monogram with the Roman numeral VI, alongside foundry markings such as Carron Company Stirlingshire or Lion Foundry near the base or inner rim. Genuine cast iron pieces exhibit significant weight, original lock mechanism apertures, and characteristic casting seams.

A freestanding post box can be installed near an entrance driveway or front porch as a functional or decorative element. Indoors, architectural salvage collectors place post boxes on pedestals in hallways, foyers, or home offices to serve as industrial sculpture and historical conversation pieces.

Cast iron requires protection against moisture to prevent oxidisation and rust. Surface rust can be removed with a wire brush or fine steel wool, followed by the application of a rust-inhibiting primer and exterior metal paint or a clear protective wax coating.
