The exterior displays caramel and warm brown hues with striking crosshatch parquetry inlay and ebonised stringing to the top surface. A golden brass gallery rail borders the top edge, and the piece has three drawers dressed with ornate ormolu escutcheon handles. The whole stands upon a quartet of fluted, tapered turned legs with gilt collar finishes and peg feet, showing a desirable aged patina. The measurements are 76 cm high by 44 cm wide and 33 cm deep. It is suited for placement in a bedroom alongside a bed, or in a lounge between sofas.

FAQs

Louis XVI Revival furniture, popular during the late 19th century, draws inspiration from 18th-century French neoclassicism, featuring straight lines, geometric marquetry, fluted or tapered legs, and brass mounts.

These pieces typically incorporate walnut, kingwood, or satinwood veneers arranged in geometric parquetry patterns, complimented by brass or gilt-bronze galleries and cast escutcheons.

Authentic period examples demonstrate hand-cut dovetail joinery inside the drawers, original brass castings showing natural oxidisation, and solid timber groundwork beneath thin decorative veneers.

A classic French nightstand works effectively as an accent side table beside modern upholstered seating or as a standalone bedroom focus alongside neutral linens and minimalist decor.

Dust regularly with a dry microfibre cloth and apply natural beeswax sparingly along the wood grain, while using a soft, dry brush to clear dust from brass gallery details.
