Handsome Military / Campaign Brass Bound Rosewood Box C.1840

Description

A wonderfully decorative and solid box, perfect for either a lady or gentleman in exotic & expensive Rosewood, brass bound in a military or campaign style.

The wood is bound with heavy inlaid brass corners, edges and straps running from the back, across the top and down the front.

The interior has been re-lined in a hand-marbled paper, perfectly in keeping. The lid retains it's original Burgundy coloured leather which falls forward with a pocket for papers and a compartment behind also; (the right hand side of the pocket is ripped but can be taped together if desired - mentioned purely for accuracy).

The box has a heavy, quality lock, complete with working tasselled key.

An important and stylish box as perfect for the desk top as for jewellery dating to around 1840, early Victorian in era, and measuring 11" x 8" x 5".
