A rare pair of vases made by TG Green of Church Gresley, Derbyshire, c1904, in their ‘Ivanhoe’ hand painted slip design, featuring white flowers and leaves over a teal and dark blue base. The decoration is in a thick impasto style which gives them a wonderful painterly feel.TG Green & Co operated from 1864 - 2007 and were best known for their everyday pottery, including a popular Cornishware range. However in the late 19th/early 20th century they developed the Ivanhoe range, possibly in collaboration with Sir Christopher Dresser who was working with other local potteries at the time. Influenced by the arts and crafts movement the designs featured organic floral motifs decorated with slip, and were more artistic and ambitious than their usual offerings.
