Opus Antiques has dated this piece to the Victorian era.
This rosewood box has a brass escutcheon, brass handle and brass inlay on the lid. Inside interestingly instead of the normal paper label there is a leather inset with an embossed fancy label Winsor & Newton manufacturers by appointment to his royal highness Prince Albert, 38 Rathbone Place, London.

The interior is fitted with ceramic paint holders with remnants of some paints still remaining. A glass water bowl, a ceramic mixing palette. There is a brass pin to unlock the drawer below which also has a ceramic mixing palette in.
The box is a good size measuring 23.5cm w x 18.5cm d x 8.5cm h.
