Antique Swiss Exquisitely Painted Tortoiseshell Snuff Box C. 1800

Description

An antique tortoiseshell snuff box c 1800 with a beautfiully hand painted lid, depicting 'The Death of Dido'. The box measures 9.5cm in length x 6cm wide x 2cm high. There is an original note from the previous owner inside the box stating that the box is Swiss, date 1800 with a 1997 valuation from Bonhams. There is a small amount of age related wear. On the bottom right hand side of the box there is a bruise to the tortoiseshell. On the back there is a small gap on the right between the lid and the hinge. However the painting is in very good condition.
