Georgian Plain Stem Dram Glass With An Undersewn Foot
£125 $168 €144
This is a Georgian, English, plain stem firing glass with an ''undersewn'' moulded foot dating from the middle of the 18th century, c1760.
The glass is in excellent condition for its age. It shows age related wear and tear to the rim of the foot commensurate with some 250 years of use. It has a rough pontil mark on the underside of the foot.
The glass has a small ovoid-shaped bowl measuring 4.8 cm (1.9 inches) in diameter at the rim. The bowl is plain save for some light flute moulding to the lower half and sits on a thick, extruded plain stem that leads to a thick, moulded, undersewn firing foot which measures 6.5 cm (2.6 inches) in diameter. The glass is 9.7 cm (3.9 inches) in height. There are no chips, cracks, significant scratches or any obvious evidence of restoration. There are a couple of unburst bubbles in the metal of the foot dating from manufacture. There is a small extraneous piece of glass on the outside of the bowl also dating from manufacture. ...There is a collector''s sticker on the base of the foot for the Paul Kettle Collection.
Lead glass weighing in at 160 g. (~ 5 1/2 oz.).
Provenance: The Paul Kettle Collection
