Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This unusual Regency two-part cabinet dates to circa 1830 and follows the Regency style in dark brown mahogany with brass fittings and pink fabric. The upper section has a brass gallery rail along the top edge, turned and carved column supports flanking two doors with wire grille fronts lined in pleated pink fabric secured by brass tacks. The lower section comprises a flat top above a fitted writing drawer and a cupboard enclosed by panelled doors, all supported by turned and carved pillar legs and bun feet. The timber exhibits a warm medium-dark brown polish throughout, complemented by bright brass hardware and trim. Measuring 138 cm high, 78 cm wide, and 44 cm deep, the cabinet provides compact vertical storage for a hallway, study, or living space to hold books, glassware, or stationery.

FAQs

Regency period cabinets, popular in Britain between 1810 and 1830, are defined by classical Greek and Roman influences, symmetrical proportions, fine mahogany or rosewood timber, and detailed brass embellishments such as galleries and lattice grilles.

Cabinetmakers during the Regency era primarily utilised flame mahogany veneers over oak or pine carcasses, paired with solid brass fittings, woven wire grilles, silk fabric linings, and hand-carved architectural details.

Authentic Regency furniture displays period construction methods including hand-cut dovetail joints, original brass gallery rails, natural timber shrinkage patterns, and genuine age-related oxidisation on metal fittings.

A Regency cabinet can be placed against neutral walls to highlight its rich timber tones, balanced with modern art pieces above, or styled alongside contemporary table lamps to bridge traditional and modern aesthetics.

Maintain mahogany surfaces by dusting regularly with a clean, dry microfibre cloth and applying a high-quality beeswax polish once or twice a year, ensuring the piece is positioned away from direct heat sources and direct sunlight.
