A four glass mantel clock, often referred to as a crystal regulator, is a style of clock featuring bevelled glass panels on all four sides and the top, allowing the movement and pendulum to be viewed from multiple angles. This design became popular in late 19th-century France.

These timepieces typically utilise a cast brass or gilded bronze frame housing thick bevelled glass panes. The dials are often porcelain or enamelled copper, frequently featuring hand-painted motifs, and house intricate brass mechanical movements.

Authentic pieces usually feature high-quality mechanical brass movements, often stamped with maker marks such as Marti, alongside serial numbers. The glass panels should be thick and bevelled, fitted into heavy cast metal frames rather than lightweight modern stamped brass.

Place the clock on a flat surface such as a mantelpiece, console table, or sideboard where light can pass through the glass panels. Its metallic finish and transparent casing allow it to blend seamlessly with both traditional and contemporary minimalist aesthetics.

Keep the clock out of direct sunlight and away from damp areas to prevent tarnishing and mechanical wear. Clean the glass with a non-ammonia glass cleaner, dust the brass gently with a soft dry cloth, and have the movement professionally serviced every few years.
