Pair of late C17th / early C18th Japanese Genroku period vases decorated in the Imari palette.

Pair of tapering baluster vases painted in traditional iron-red , colbalt and inky blue colours of the Imari palette onto white bodies with gilded highlights. Decorated with six alternating panels of mythical phoenix birds and floral motifs , the shoulders with further alternating vignette panels of mythical komainu or guardian lion-dogs , and floral decoration. Having intense floral decoration with chrysanthemum head details .

Highly decorative pair of Japanese vases of good scale and proportions. One vase having historic cracks and repaired damage with iron staple repairs , though completely stable .
