Comments
The glass collector will be used to seeing hops and barley engraved on 19th century ale glasses, generally with narrow conical bowls and there are some stunning examples. However, to find this decoration on a large rummer is exceptionally rare. There are almost 350 sold rummers from the 19th century on our web site but only ONE has hop and Barley. We've always found this rarity strange, in as much as the rummer form is an ideal glass for beer. You would think that many Rummers were used for Ale, but the engravings don’t back that up.
