In A Nutshell Antiques and Interiors has dated this piece to the Victorian era.
The cylinder is contained in its original inlaid box with a boxwood strung border and an inlaid floral motif on the lid. Below the lid is a paper label showing the list of songs.
It is in good condition and it plays beautifully. The teeth and cylinder are in good order and it has been recently cleaned.
The box is in good condition with no major damages and a lovely patina. There are a few small knocks and light marks commensurate with age but nothing detrimental. The paper label is not original and has been replaced at some point in its life. There are also some signs of historic worm in places which has all been treated as a precaution.
