A tea caddy is a small box or chest historically used to store dried tea leaves securely during a period when tea was an expensive, luxury commodity.

Traditional tea caddies were crafted from fine timbers such as mahogany, rosewood, and burl walnut, often featuring decorative veneers, bone or ivory escutcheons, and brass hardware.

Authentication involves examining the construction techniques, dovetail joints, interior lining remnants, type of wood grain, and the style of the brass handles and locks consistent with the period.

An antique tea caddy can be placed on a bookshelf, sideboard, or coffee table as a focal point, adding warmth and historical texture to contemporary spaces.

Preservation requires keeping the wood away from direct sunlight and heat sources, dusting gently with a soft dry cloth, and occasionally applying microcrystalline wax to protect the finish.
