Fine Georgian Mahogany Round Dial Longcase Clock 'Benjamin Peers, Chester'

Description

A lovely example of quality georgian mahogany longcase clock, with swan neck pediment hoodincorporating dentil moulding on the sweeps, reeded columns withfine brass columns flanking raised moulded door. The round enamel dial well painted with floral motif to centre signed 'b peers, chester' (recorded in loomes as working in the area 1773-84). 8 day movement serviced and running in the showroom.

The case with long shaped door flanked by reeded quarter columns, central inlaid shell motif and brass escutcheon. Cantered ogee moulding with inlaid base, stood on ogee bracket feet, bought as seen condition. An elegant well proportioned clock with good use of quality timbers, nice and unusual to see an oval dial on an english clock. Bought privately.
