Technical Description
An 18th century air twist wine glass dating to c1750.
It has a pantop round funnel bowl above a short single series air twist stem consisting of a spiral air gauze. Sits on a helmet foot.
This is an outstanding glass which has several rare features. Short wine glasses are as their name suggests, have a standard sized bowl and foot but with a shorter stem than normal. Halfway between a wine and a dram glass. Although the form is well documented, it is often overlooked. Why shorter stemmed wines were made and who used them is a debate for elsewhere, but the combination of bowl, stem and foot, on this particular glass, is a rare combination indeed.
