Tortoiseshell Fitted Sewing Box

Description

A most unusual and fine quality Regency period fitted tortoiseshell SEWING BOX in excellent condition. The well-figured “serpentine” top, with its vacant cartouche, opens to reveal the original “ruched” silk lining to the lid, whilst the gilded contents include: scent bottle; tape measure; waxer; pin cushion; stiletto; tweezers; bodkin; fine pair of scissors with dolphins to the handles and the hallmarked gold thimble (tests as 15ct). 6ins (15cms) wide.
